Self-Adhesive PVC Anti-Blind Spot Fresnel Lens for HGV Nearside Window
The Hi Vue Fresnel Lens is designed to press-fit directly onto the nearside window of an HGV cab, held securely in position by its built-in peel-back self-adhesive backing.
By attaching to the nearside window, the lens gives the driver an additional downward field of view, allowing them to spot vulnerable road users who would otherwise be concealed in the mirror blind spot alongside the passenger door.
Unlike a conventional mirror, the Hi Vue Fresnel Lens delivers a natural, direct view through the glass of what is immediately beside the vehicle, with no reversed or inverted image to interpret. This means a driver can process potential hazards instinctively and react far more quickly.
Fresnel lenses are now widely recognised as an essential safety aid for HGV operators. Transport for London and Crossrail both require vehicles to be fitted with lenses before they can carry out work on busy urban roads.
This lens is recommended by the Department for Transport’s Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) and the Highways Agency.
The DVSA has stated that even fully compliant modern HGVs, equipped with the required six mirrors under EU regulations, still have nearside blind spots large enough to conceal a family saloon. Fitting a Fresnel lens is the recommended solution.
DVSA trials have demonstrated that fitting Fresnel lenses to vehicles reduces both the frequency and severity of sideswipe collisions.
