Self-Adhesive PVC Anti-Blind Spot Fresnel Lens for Truck Nearside and DVS Peeper Windows

The Hi Vue Fresnel Lens is designed to press into the passenger-side window of an HGV cab, where it stays securely in position using its own peel-back self-adhesive backing.

By providing an additional downward field of view, the lens allows the driver to quickly identify any vulnerable road user who might otherwise be hidden in the mirror blind spot alongside the passenger door. Crucially, unlike a conventional mirror, the Hi Vue delivers a natural, direct view through the glass rather than a reversed or inverted image, enabling the driver to process potential hazards more quickly and respond accordingly.

DVS Peeper Windows

When fitted in portrait orientation to the nearside peeper window, the lens can extend forward visibility by up to 30 degrees. This allows the driver to see into the area normally obscured by the windscreen pillar, significantly improving their ability to detect people or objects close to the front left corner of the vehicle.

Peeper windows in the lower front doors of truck cabs have grown in popularity since London’s Direct Vision Standard (DVS) took effect in March, and this lens can help drivers maximise the visibility available from the cab.

Fresnel lenses are now widely recognised as an essential visual safety aid for HGV drivers. Transport for London and Crossrail both require trucks to be fitted with lenses before carrying out haulage work on busy urban roads.

The lens carries a recommendation from the Department for Transport’s Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) and the Highways Agency, and is also procured by the Ministry of Defence for use across British Joint Armed Forces in-service and support vehicles.

The DVSA has noted that even modern HGVs equipped with a full set of six mirrors, in line with the latest EU directive, still have passenger-side blind spots large enough to conceal a family saloon car, and recommends fitting a Fresnel lens as the solution. DVSA trials have also demonstrated that adding Fresnel lenses to vehicles reduces both the frequency and severity of sideswipe collisions.

• To fit, simply peel back the adhesive cover around the clear border of the lens and press it firmly onto clean window glass for an instant, bubble-free and water-free bond (full fitting instructions included)
